Drive Shaft Safety Loops & Enclosures

Practically all sanctioning bodies mandate Driveshaft Containment in some capacity. This requirement typically satisfied by installing a loop around the front or rear of the driveshaft and completely enclosing the yoke at either end with sheet metal (mild steel, 4130, or titanium). Correct implementation of these measures ensures the safety of both the driver and limits damage to the racecar.

A minimum 12” enclosure which covers the yoke and drive shaft is required by the majority of sanctioning bodies to aid in protecting the driver from a loose or broken driveshaft in the event of a driveline failure.
